A Dynamic Radial-Based Self-Adaptive Framework for Modelling the Consigma-25 Continuous Tablet Production Line

In this research paper, a dynamic radial-based self-adaptive framework is proposed to model the processes of ConsiGma™-25 and to predict the attributes of tablets produced. The idea of such a model is required to address (i) the dynamic nature of the ConsiGma™-25 tablet production line and its processes; (ii) the limited amount of data that is usually available at the early stage; and (iii) the need to analyse the framework’s behaviours. Therefore, the impacts of various process parameters of the different units of ConsiGma™-25 (e.g., wet granulation, drying, milling, blending and tabletting) are statistically investigated. Then, a dynamic self-adaptive framework based on radial basis functions is developed to represent the processes of the ConsiGma™-25 tablet production line and to predict the tablet strength which indicates the tablet quality and tabletability. The framework performance is then assessed in the space investigated in a way that facilitates the (i) consideration and assessment of new data points when they are available; and (ii) expansion of the space by considering areas that have not been represented. Validated on a set of experimental data, the proposed framework has successfully predicted the tablet strength with a 0.89 coefficient of determination. In addition, the dynamic self-adaptive paradigm has improved the value of the coefficient of determination by an overall average of 3.7 %.
