The Shoman Reading Competition – Pages

The competition aims to encourage readers aged 16 and above to read five books over five months, each from a different monthly theme. Participants enter the title of the book they read through the system each month and write a review after completing it. 

Any reader can join the competition in any of the months July, August, September, October, or November 2025.

General Rules

  • Library membership is not required to participate in the competition.

  • Participants may read books in either Arabic or English.

  • Participants can track their progress in the competition through the Reading Competition platform on the Foundation’s website or the Shoman App.

  • A single book may not be counted for more than one theme, even if it covers multiple topics. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure the selected book fits the designated theme.

  • Participants may seek assistance from the librarian when selecting books.

  • Winners are allowed to participate again in future editions of the competition when it is relaunched.

  • Participants may start with any theme in any order, as long as they complete all five themes before the final deadline on November 30, 2025.

Competition Winning Mechanism

Participants are awarded scores out of 100 to qualify for the final stage, based on the following criteria:

  • Book–Theme Relevance: 10%

  • Originality of Book Selection: 10%

  • Authenticity of the Written Review: 50%

  • Quality of Writing — grammar, spelling, and linguistic structure: 30%
