At Shoman Cinema, films are not merely screened, they are experienced. Every showing, every image, and every dialogue, is an invitation to discover the world, understand it, and immerse yourself in its details.

We do not present cinema merely as entertainment, but as a tool for knowledge, a space for reflection, a platform for dialogue, and a bridge for learning and connecting with others.

The cinema committee at Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation was established in 1989, as an initiative that brings together critics, filmmakers, and artists.

The committee was created because it firmly believes that cinema is one of the most powerful and widespread forms of cultural expression and has worked to present carefully selected Arab and international films, accompanied by discussions and analytical sessions aimed at deepening understanding, broadening perspectives, and stimulating cinematic dialogue.

Since 1992, this initiative has evolved into a specialized department within the Foundation’s structure. The Cinema Committee has continued its work alongside the Foundation’s team to deliver a dynamic, diverse, and engaging film program.

Cinema Programs

Weekly Screenings

Every Tuesday evening, we gather for a free public film screening. We show films from various schools of cinema from around the world, carefully selected to suit diverse tastes, and include classic, contemporary, and experimental films.

After each screening, we open the floor for discussion, bringing together attendees, enthusiasts, critics, and artists to analyze the film from artistic, intellectual, and aesthetic perspectives. More than just screenings, these are immersive cultural experiences that spark meaningful dialogue.

Movie Weeks

The Cinema Department organizes several Film Weeks a year, each dedicated to celebrating a particular theme, country, filmmaker, or issue. During these weeks, audiences enjoy a curated selection of films unified by subject or style and at times, the filmmakers themselves join the post-screening discussions.

Since 1992, the Cinema Department has hosted Film Weeks in partnership with embassies and leading Arab and international cultural institutions, including the Goethe-Institut and cultural attachés.

Workshops and Training Sessions

We believe that cinematic knowledge is incomplete without practical and professional training. Therefore, the department organizes annual specialized workshops in various fields such as directing, cinematography, film criticism, lighting, digital techniques, and more. These workshops are delivered by experienced Jordanian and Arab professionals.

Cinema Club

Launched in 2021, the Cinema Club is a small community that explores cinema through a critical lens. It provides an open discussion space for young film enthusiasts, where selected topics are examined in depth. Sessions are led by members of the Cinema Committee or subject-matter experts, and schedules are shared through the events calendar.

The Cinema Marathon

The Cinema Marathon is an extended, focused film screening held over an entire day each year, featuring a series of connected films by a single director. The screen becomes a gateway for a deep journey into understanding the director’s world and artistic style.

Organized by the Cinema Department, the marathon aims to create an intense cinematic experience that blends enjoyment, knowledge, and reflection, offering the audience a truly exceptional experience.
