Making Fine Art Accessible to All

Recognizing the deep connection between music and the human spirit, and its profound impact on the soul, Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation launched a music program in 2014, which includes: • Regular musical evenings at the Foundation, providing a platform to highlight promising Jordanian talent, held on Thursday evenings each month. • Annual musical evenings featuring prominent Arab and international artists, introducing audiences to global musical experiences, especially at the Odeon Theater in Amman. • Musical evenings outside the Foundation, held during Amman Citadel Cultural Week and the Foundation’s cultural days in other governorates. In line with our belief that the arts should be accessible to everyone, all musical evenings are free of charge.

Monthly Musical Evenings

These evenings primarily spotlight young talent, authentic musical experiences, and outstanding new projects. They also feature events celebrating musical heritage and introducing audiences to diverse musical genres. Each year, a special day is dedicated to celebrating key instruments in Arabic music, such as Oud Day and Qanun Day. The program also honors pioneers of Arabic music through evenings where they showcase their work or introduce different musical styles, featuring artists like Talal Abu Ragheb, Hassan Al-Faqir, Ayman Taysir, and Charbel Rouhana.

Sound and Colour Evenings

Sound & Color Evenings are summer musical events hosted by the Foundation on the rooftop of its Jabal Amman headquarters. Visual arts are featured prominently, with selected works from the Foundation’s collection displayed in an accompanying exhibition and a dedicated drawing space. During Sound & Color events, different art forms come together, highlighting artworks collected by the Foundation from prominent visual artists such as Marwan Kassab-Bashi, George Bahgory, and Mohammed Al-Jalous.

Musical Evenings in Downtown Amman

These annual events, held over two to three days in June or July at the Odeon Theater in downtown Amman, celebrate prominent Arab and international musicians while encouraging collaboration with Jordanian artists. The program brings together local and international artists in a series of dynamic concerts, fostering the exchange of musical expertise. Outstanding independent musicians also take the spotlight in solo performances accompanied by the orchestra, showcasing their talents and creativity in a truly collaborative setting.

Musical Evenings as Part of Abdul Hameed Shoman Cultural Days

Musical evenings are an integral part of Cultural Days, marking the opening, the closing, or both. Designed with sensitivity to the region’s cultural context, these events often feature a rich musical program, including orchestral performances with local participants whenever possible. The program may also feature more community-oriented events, such as performances by Bait Al Ruwwad at Jara Theater during Amman Citadel Week, an opening concert by the Al-Simsimiya Band before Tarek Al-Jundi’s performance in Aqaba, and children’s choir performances during the Cultural Days in Irbid, among others.
