The Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers is the first Arab award established specifically to support and empower scientific research in the Arab world. Since 1982, the award has aimed to strengthen the status of the Arab researcher and promote a sustainable Arab scientific renaissance.

The award is granted to individuals with outstanding scientific contributions that expand knowledge and offer innovative solutions to local and global challenges.

Through its long-standing history, the award has become a trusted reference for academic excellence and holds a distinguished position within the scientific community.

Award Fields – 2025 Cycle

The award covers six main scientific fields, with two specific topics announced each year within each field:

Engineering Sciences Field

Basic Sciences Field

Human, Social, and Educational Sciences Field

Technological Sciences Field

Agricultural Sciences Field

These categories are designed to encourage researchers to address issues that meet the needs of their communities and open new horizons for Arab scientific innovation.

Awards and Prizes

The winner in each award topic receives:

Certificate

An official certificate including the winner’s name and the award topic.

A cash prize

A cash prize of twenty thousand (20,000) US dollars.

Trophy

An honorary trophy engraved with the award’s name and logo.

In the event of multiple winners in the same topic, the cash prize is divided equally, and each winner receives a certificate and a shield.

The award stands as a prestigious Arab symbol of scientific excellence and a genuine motivation to pursue academic and research innovation.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers, the following conditions must be met:

The applicant must be of Arab nationality or of Arab origin.
The applicant must have produced distinguished scientific work in theoretical or applied fields during the five years preceding the nomination, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The submitted research must have been conducted in an Arab country or through effective collaboration with one or more researchers residing in an Arab country.
The applicant must submit a scientific summary of the submitted work in both Arabic and English.
Researchers who have previously won the award in past cycles are not eligible to apply again.
Research papers are accepted in Arabic or English only.
Master’s or doctoral thesis research is not considered part of the evaluated scientific output.
The application must be submitted in one of the disciplines listed under the award’s fields, and the specific discipline must be indicated in the application form.

All scientific work and required documents must be submitted at once through the online platform; any materials sent later will not be considered.
Submitted scientific work will not be returned, whether the applicant wins or not.
The applicant must be alive at the time of application submission.
Members of the Scientific Committee or judging panels are not eligible to apply for the award during the same cycle in which they serve.
The applicant must be of Arab nationality or of Arab origin.
The applicant must have published research within the past five years in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The scientific work must have been carried out in an Arab country or through effective collaboration with Arab researchers.
The applicant must not have previously received the award.
