Since 1986, the Abdul Hameed Shoman Public Library has represented an advanced model for libraries in Jordan and the Arab world, being the first fully computerized and equipped public library. It was established to be more than just a space for reading — a vibrant center of cultural life and lifelong learning.
It was founded out of a firm belief in the vital role libraries play in the advancement of nations and is managed with a vision to make knowledge accessible to all — freely, inclusively, and through modern means.
The library houses hundreds of thousands of printed and digital books, scientific databases, study and reflection spaces, and specialized facilities. It is open to all individuals aged 17 and above, and is fully accessible, providing an inclusive environment for people with disabilities.
At the national level, the Shoman Library has expanded to include branches in Amman (Jabal Amman, Ashrafieh, and Muqabalein), as well as in Zarqa and Ma’an, in addition to partnerships and initiatives that support libraries across Jordan and Palestine.
