The competition targets children and youth aged 7–11 and 12–16, encouraging them to read a variety of books and stories. Participants are challenged to read 16 diverse types of books before turning 16 and enter information about each book in the competition’s summary booklet.
An internal committee evaluates the summary booklets and shortlists the top 20 participants for interviews. After these discussions, the top three in each age group are chosen. Applications remain open until December 1, 2025
Launched in 2018, the “16 Before 16” competition aims to promote reading among children and adolescents, making the library an integral part of their daily lives. Participants not only summarize the books but can also express their reflections creatively, through drawing, reviewing, or reimagining the story.
