Amman – Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation today launched the Jordanian Librarians Community of Practice at Abdul Hameed Shoman Library – Muqabalein Branch, bringing together librarians from across Jordan, along with representatives of cultural and community institutions and supporting partners.

This initiative is part of the Foundation’s efforts to build an active professional community led by librarians themselves and to strengthen the role of libraries as spaces for learning and drivers of positive social change. It brings library professionals together around shared practice, peer learning, and knowledge exchange, while supporting continuous professional development across the sector.

The gathering provided a space for library professionals to discuss the sector’s main challenges and opportunities, while strengthening a national network that supports ongoing professional growth and sustainable development.

Interactive discussions focused on several key themes, including the role of libraries in society, librarians as drivers of change, digital transformation and artificial intelligence in libraries, and practical ways to adopt these technologies locally. Participants also explored strategies to attract different age groups to libraries, enhance resource sustainability, and build community partnerships.

Participants stressed the importance of keeping pace with rapid technological change and empowering librarians to design innovative programs that respond to community needs, reinforcing libraries as centers of knowledge, culture, and development.

The launch of the Jordanian Librarians Community of Practice marks an important step toward establishing an open professional network for librarians in Jordan to help define shared sector priorities, promote knowledge exchange, and advance library services at the national level.
