Amman, 8 April —Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation, the cultural and social responsibility arm of Arab Bank, announced the closure of applications for the 44th cycle (2026) of the Arab Researchers Award.

Muna Zaqsaw, Head of Scientific Research and Innovation at the Foundation, noted in a press statement today a notable increase in submissions this year, maintaining the high levels seen over the past three years. Since the launch of this cycle, the Foundation received 1,553 applications, including 656 complete submissions, all from Arab researchers working in scientific and academic institutions around the world.

She added that the highest number of applications was in genomics and precision medicine, with 111 complete submissions, while 28 applications were received in supply chain management. The number of submissions in basic sciences and in social sciences and humanities was closely aligned, reflecting the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the role of social sciences and humanities in scientific research.

The award covers several fields: Medical and Health Sciences (including genomics, precision medicine, telemedicine, and digital health); Engineering and Technological Sciences (including smart power grid technologies and green hydrogen applications); Basic Sciences (including artificial intelligence, smart earth monitoring, and advanced mathematical modeling); Humanities, Social and Educational Sciences (including memory studies and emotional and social intelligence in education); Water, Energy and Food Sciences (including soil health, circular economy, and energy efficiency in sustainable agriculture); and Economic and Administrative Sciences (including financial disclosure and supply chain management).

The award reflects the Foundation’s belief that scientific advancement is essential to societal progress. It aims to support Arab researchers across disciplines, strengthen research ecosystems, and promote the application of knowledge to pressing challenges.

Submissions are evaluated by independent expert juries appointed by the award’s scientific committee, according to rigorous criteria to ensure integrity and credibility. The committees reserve the right to grant or withhold awards.

The award recognizes outstanding research produced within the past five years that advances knowledge and contributes to addressing priority challenges locally, regionally, and globally. Each award includes a certificate, a cash prize of USD 20,000, and a shield bearing the award’s name and logo.

Established in 1982, the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Arab Researchers is the first Arab award dedicated to scientific research. To date, 506 researchers have been honored for their contributions across a wide range of fields.
