Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation hosted acclaimed Egyptian actor Fathi Abdel Wahab on Monday evening for a public discussion titled “Fathi Abdel Wahab: A Star’s Journey.” The conversation was moderated by Egyptian film critic and writer Ramy Abdel Razek and attended by an audience of cinema and drama enthusiasts.

During the event, Abdel Wahab reflected on key milestones in a career spanning more than three decades, from his unexpected beginnings in university theatre to becoming one of Egypt’s leading actors. He also discussed his approach to selecting roles, emphasizing his interest in complex characters and the importance of authenticity in performance.

The conversation explored several of his recent works, including Al Hashashin and Al Maddah, as well as the artistic influences that shaped his career. Abdel Wahab cited prominent Egyptian actors Salah Abdullah, Adel Imam, and Yehia El-Fakharany among the figures who inspired him.

The evening also featured an interactive Q&A session, during which attendees raised questions about character development, acting techniques, and the differences between stage, film, and television performance. Abdel Wahab expressed his admiration for legendary Egyptian actor Mahmoud El Meligy, noting that he would have loved the opportunity to work alongside him.

In response to an audience question about a recommended drama series, Abdel Wahab highlighted Layaly El Helmeya, describing it as one of the most significant works in Arab television drama.

Following the discussion, the Foundation’s Cinema Department hosted a professional acting workshop led by Abdel Wahab for emerging Jordanian talent. The workshop focused on the relationship between actors and their characters, as well as the role of personal experience in creating authentic performances.

Fathi Abdel Wahab is widely recognized as one of Egypt’s most prominent actors. His notable film credits include Film Thaqafi, Sleepless Nights, Cabaret, Nile Birds, and Alzheimer’s. His television work includes successful productions such as Dahsha, Jazeerat Ghmam, Cairo: Kabul, Al Hashashin, and Al Maddah. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his artistic achievements.
