20-08-2026

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation Forum, the cultural and social responsibility arm of Arab Bank, hosted the launch of “This Is How Moenes Razzaz Thought” on Monday evening, attended by former Prime Minister Dr. Omar Razzaz and a gathering of writers, intellectuals, and cultural figures.

The book brings together articles written by the late Moenes Razzaz during the 1990s and published in Ad-Dustour and Al Rai. The collection was initiated by Ad-Dustour newspaper to preserve and document his intellectual legacy.

The launch featured remarks by Dr. Omar Razzaz, writer Fakhri Saleh, novelist Yahya Al Qaisi, journalist Mohammad Kharoub, and journalist Mahmoud Muneer. The session was moderated by Atallah Tarawneh.

Dr. Omar Razzaz described the publication as an important effort to preserve the work of a writer who consistently engaged with the major political and social questions facing the Arab world. He said the collection reflects Moenes Razzaz's belief that change begins with questioning and that people must play an active role in shaping their future. He also thanked the colleagues and friends who contributed to bringing the book to publication.

Fakhri Saleh said that although Razzaz was best known as a novelist and intellectual, he maintained a strong presence in the press through his newspaper columns. He noted that Razzaz used his articles to examine contemporary Arab political and social issues through analysis and reflection.

Yahya Al Qaisi highlighted Razzaz's resilience and engagement in public life. He said that despite personal struggles, Razzaz remained active as a writer, editor-in-chief of Afkar magazine, adviser at the Ministry of Culture, and a leading participant in Jordan's cultural scene.

Mahmoud Muneer reflected on the influence of Razzaz's writings on a generation of readers, describing them as a space for critical questioning and hope during a period marked by political and social uncertainty.

Mohammad Khroub spoke about his friendship with Razzaz and revealed plans for a comprehensive volume collecting all of his published articles in Jordanian and Arab newspapers and periodicals. The publication is expected to coincide with the 25th anniversary of his passing on February 8, 2027.

Born in Salt in 1951, Moenes Razzaz is considered one of the leading figures of modern Arabic fiction. He received Jordan's State Appreciation Award for Literature in 2000 and served as an adviser at the Ministry of Culture and editor-in-chief of Afkar magazine.
