Reading Marathon

The idea of the Reading Marathon was launched in 2020 as one of the interactive knowledge programs initiated by the Abdul Hameed Shoman Library — designed to be more than just a quiet space for reading, but a platform that fosters engagement and builds bridges between readers and books in new and innovative ways.

The marathon is built on a simple idea: readers gather at a specific time and place, each reading a set number of pages. At the end of the day, the total number of pages is tallied — and the collective achievement is celebrated. It’s an experience much like a running race, but here the tracks are book pages, and the prizes are knowledge and inspiration.

In an atmosphere filled with passion, excitement, and a love for knowledge, the Abdul Hameed Shoman Library invites you to join the 2025 Reading Marathon — the annual event that transforms books into a stage for positive competition, learning, and enjoyment.

Throughout September 2025, the Reading Marathon will take place across all governorates of the Kingdom — from the heart of Amman to the most distant villages and towns — in public libraries, schools, parks, and cultural centers. The goal? To set a new record by reading thousands of pages in a single day and to make reading a national celebration honoring books and the written word.
