About the Award: 

In line with Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation's vision & mission “Towards a Society of Culture and Creativity”, the Foundation has been keen over the past few years to create an environment that stimulates creativity among children and youth through its integrated programs that include a library for children and youth, training workshops, various activities, and a space for innovation and several awards.  

This was all to complement the Foundation’s firm belief in the role children and youth play in shaping the future, as well as providing talented individuals with a chance to express themselves, to create a serious shift towards culture, knowledge, and innovation. 

The Abdul Hameed Shoman Prize for Creative Productions for Children and Youth "Abdeh", is considered one of the most prominent awards in the Literary, performing, artistic, and scientific innovation fields and aims to support the talents of children and youth. 

The award launched in 1988 and lasted until 2003. The Foundation re-launched the award in 2018 to fit the needs of younger generations. The launch jumpstarted a new era to support and inspire the talents of children and youth united by passion, creativity, and enthusiasm in addition to facilitating their entry into a world of experience and capacity building and unleashing their creativity. 

Award Conditions: 

1. The award is open to all Jordanian and non-Jordanian children and youth between the ages of 8-18 years and reside in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. 

2. It is acceptable to apply to only one area of the award, but only one submission is accepted for each area. 

3. The Foundation has the right to publish and circulate the work of those qualified for the training workshops as it deems appropriate. 

4. The applicant must be available to join in all the award stages. 

5. The jury has the right to withhold an award. 

6. Those who won in previous rounds of the award are not entitled to participate in the same area and field, but are entitled to apply for a different award field. 

7. The work must be original and created by the applicant, any submissions that prove interference by others are excluded. 

8. The work should not have won any local, Arab or international prizes before the submission deadline. 

9. The literary works should be in standard Arabic. 

10. The applicant must abide by the terms and conditions for each award area. 

11. We will not consider submissions that do not comply with the award terms and conditions. 

12. The judging panel decisions are final and cannot be contested. 

13. All entries must be received by the submission deadline. 

Prizes: 

• A certificate of appreciation in the name of the winner. 

• A shield bearing the award name and logo. 

• A monetary prize for $1,000. 

• Incentive prizes according to the winning field.

    Literary Creativity (Editorials & Poetry) 

     

    Field conditions: 

     

    a. Editorials: 

     

    1. Targeted age groups: (12-15), (16-18) years.  

    2. Editorial topic 

    3. The editorial should include the following components: Title, introduction, editorial body, including the construction, building the argument and counterargument, refuting it, and conclusion. 

    4. The editorial is in classic Arabic. 

    5. The editorial must be original work, not copied or plagiarized. 

    6. The applicant is entitled to only one submission. 

    7. The editorial is between 250 to 400 words. 

    8. The work is submitted as a PDF or Microsoft word file. 

    9. The editorial is printed in a 14-gauge font. 

    10. The candidate is expected to attend a training workshop and write one or more editorials.  A judging panel will review the editorials.  

    11. The panel has the right to exclude any entry that is copied, plagiarized, translated, or does not meet the requirements. 

    12. The work is judged by an expert panel, and their decisions are final and uncontested.

    b. Poetry: Poetry Subject 

    1. Targeted age groups: (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    2. The poetry is in classic Arabic. 

    3. Structured and free-form poetry is accepted. 

    4. The applicant is entitled to only one submission. 

    5. The number of lines in a structured poem is no less than 7, and the number of lines in a free-form poem is no less than 15 lines. 

    6. Poem is submitted in a PDF or Microsoft word file. 

    7. Poem submission is printed and formatted in a 14-gauge font. 

    8. The panel has the right to exclude any entry that is copied, plagiarized, translated, or does not meet the conditions. 

    9. The candidate is required to attend a workshop led by a group of experts, where they are required to write one or more poems. A judging panel will review the poems. 

    10. The judging panel's decisions are final and uncontested.

    Field Terms & Conditions: 

     

    A. Music (solo or group playing): 

     

    1. The participant submits one piece of folk instrumental music, and the award is split into two categories: 

    • The first: the melodic instruments: (Al-Majwoz, Yergul, Municipal oboe, Shababah, Rababah, Sesamiya, Bagpipe, and other melodic instruments). 

    • The second: percussion instruments: (riqq, tabla, big drum, mahbash, and other percussion instruments). 

    2. The applicant has the freedom to choose the music he will use to participate in the award. 

    3. The applicant has the right to submit only one piece of work. 

    4. Targeted age groups: (8-11), (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    5. The length of the musical work ranges from two to five minutes. 

    6. The finalists are required to attend a workshop under the direction of expert musicians. 

    7. During the workshops, the candidate will present two musical pieces as follows: 

    • Melodic instruments: Two musical pieces are presented from local folk music heritage and performed as follows: 

     A solo piece that exemplifies the instrument's capabilities and the player's technical skills. 

     A piece performed with rhythmic accompaniment. 

    • Percussion instruments: Presentation of two percussion musical pieces performed as follows: 

     Rhythmic improvisation that shows the potential of the instrument and the player's technical skills. 

     Rhythmic accompaniment to a melodic piece. 

    8. The candidate will be interviewed by the jury and will perform in front of them. Playing at a time and place determined by the foundation, in line with the outcomes of the training workshop.

    B. Dance Arts (Solo or Group Dance): 

     

    1. Targeted age groups: (8-11), (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    2. The length of the individual performance is (3-5) minutes. 

    3. The length of the group performance is (5-7) minutes. 

    4. The applicant is free to decide on the performance's theme and music, as long as it is presented as an expressive dance inspired by a certain idea, or a traditional dabke. 

    5. The applicant has the right to only one performance. 

    6. The applicant/s are prepared to perform before the panel. 

    7. The finalists are expected to attend a workshop led by experts, during which they practice and perform one or more dances.  The final decision will be based on one of these performances. 

    8. The candidate is committed to performing in front of the judging panel at a time and place of their choosing where judging will take place accordingly. 

    9. The panel decisions are final and uncontested.

    Field Terms & Conditions: 

     

    a. color painting: 

    1. Targeted age groups: (8-11), (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    2. The artwork must be original and created by the applicant. 

    3. The applicant can submit only one artwork. 

    4. The artwork size is not more than 70 * 50 cm and not less than 50 * 30 cm. 

    5. The applicant’s name and details should not be mentioned on the artwork.  

    6. The artwork was recently created and within the same year as the award. Any artwork created before will not be accepted. 

    7. The applicant is free to use different materials and colors, including collage technique (paste), all artworks should be drawn manually, digital artworks are not accepted. 

    8. The applicant must attach a photo of the artwork in high quality. 

    9. The applicant is required to attend a technical workshop led by experts, during which one or more artworks are created and judged by the panel. 

    10. The foundation will provide all the necessary art tools to complete the artwork - (during the training workshop). 

    11. The panel decisions are final and uncontested.

    b. Sculpture/Ceramics: 

     

    1. Targeted age groups: (8-11), (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    2. The artwork must be original and made by the applicant. 

    3. The applicant is entitled to submit only one artwork. 

    4. The work size should be no more than 50 * 50 cm. 

    5. The applicant's name and details should not be stated on the artwork.  

    6. The artwork was recently created and within the same year as the award. Any artwork created before will not be accepted. 

    7. The applicant is free to use any of the following materials (clay, gypsum, stone, marble, metal, wood, in addition to other materials). 

    8. The applicant must attach a high-quality photo of the artwork, taken from more than one angle. 

    9. The applicant is expected to attend a technical workshop led by experts, where they will create artworks that will be judged by a panel of experts. 

    10. The foundation shall provide the necessary tools to complete the artwork (during the training workshop). 

    11. The panel decisions are final and uncontested.

    Field Terms & Conditions: 

    Sciences: 

    1. Targeted age groups (12-15), (16-18) years. 

    2. The work is created by the applicant. 

    3. The work has not won any other prizes. 

    4. The work should include a new or innovative idea. 

    5. The work must not be quoted, duplicate, or plagiarized. 

    6. The work is submitted in Arabic use of another language will be investigated. 

    7. The applicant is required to fill out the entire science field form. 

    8. Work submitted by individuals or groups is accepted, provided they are within the same age group, with a maximum of five team members. 

    9. The applicant is required to: 

    • Attend a workshop under the direction of experts. 

    • Submit a detailed report on the completed project, not exceeding ten pages. 

    10. The foundation will provide the necessary tools to complete the work (during the training workshop).

    Application submissions for the 18th session for the year 2021 Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Creative Productions for Children and Youth "Abdeh" opens on September 12, 2021, and closes on November 12, 2021.

    • If you have an account from the previous year, please enter your username and password.

    • Enter the information related to scientific innovation if the field is "scientific innovation".

    1. A copy of your birth certificate or passport 

    2. The work submitted for the award or add the link to the uploaded work if the file is larger than 10MB.
