Read in 10 Competition 

 

Overview of the competition:

The competition aims to encourage readers aged 16 and above to read 10 books within 10 months, covering 10 selected topics each month. The reader fills in the name of the book from the chosen topics each month through the system and submits a review after completing the reading.

Any reader can join the competition in any month of the year 2023, but they should fill out a review of the books from the previous months after joining.

Selected book topics for each month

Month 1 (April 1st): Readers are required to read a novel with a child as the protagonist, such as "My Orange Tree" by Jose Mauro de Vasconcelos.

Month 2 (May 1st): Readers are required to read a book about writing, such as "Why I Write" by George Orwell.

Month 3 (June 1st): Readers are required to read a graphic novel, such as "Batman."

Month 4 (July 1st): Readers are required to read a book by an author they dislike (based on the reader's opinion).

Month 5 (August 1st): Readers are required to read a non-literary book, such as "The Meaning of Beauty in Art."

Month 6 (September 1st): Readers are required to read an award-winning book, such as "The notebooks of the seller" by Jalal Barjas.

Month 7 (October 1st): Readers are required to read a book by a Jordanian author, such as "Zubadat Al-Zabid" by Elias Farkouh.

Month 8 (November 1st): Readers are required to read a collection of short stories, such as "Laughable Loves" by Milan Kundera.

Month 9 (December 1st): Readers are required to read a poetry collection, such as "The Diwan of Al-Shafi'i."

Month 10 (January 1st): Readers are required to read a play, such as "Al-Farafir" by Yusuf Idris.

General conditions

Membership in the library is not required to participate in the competition.

Participants can read books in both Arabic and English.

Participants can follow their journey in the competition through the reading competition platform on the institution's website or the Shoman app.

One book cannot be considered for more than one topic, even if the book covers more than one topic, and the matching between the book and the topic is the responsibility of the participant.

Participants can seek the assistance of the librarian in choosing the books.

Winners are allowed to participate again in the competition when it is relaunched in its subsequent cycles.

The mechanism for winning

the competition involves awarding participants marks out of 100 to qualify for the final stage based on the following criteria:

Suitability of the book and topic: 10%
The authenticity of book choice: 10%
Writing an authentic review: 50%
Writing the review in a grammatically correct language with proper spelling and linguistic structure: 30%
Awards:

First place: A purchase voucher worth 750 dinars.
Second place: A purchase voucher worth 500 dinars.
Third place: A purchase voucher worth 250 dinars.
